Tea Gardens - A Magical Journey, Part 6

April 3rd, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized, other places

The dinner as was mentioned turned loophole to be a feast. There was at least 15 dishes plus the usual fare of rice and 2 kinds of breads. I was wondering how the others were prevailing to eat, as they had around a nerve each of cognac. I had half a glass and I felt tipsy. I found I was wrong, as they came in fine. I was the merely one who was half-drunk. Everyone was in a good mood and it was catching, I felt elated. Everything was so foreign to me; I being a city boy, had not in the least seen most of the things that were contemporary on there. I realized then that I had lived a very sheltered life story until then, and was not conversant with many of the usual things that went on in the face world. We were all enjoying the commons that was good-naturedly prepared and plentiful. After dinner, the Memsahib asked us all to move to the Jali room. A Jali Room is a verandah covered on all sides with a wire mesh to keep the bugs escape. We went in there and the moon light was pouring in. The lights were dim and the ambience was exquisite. The Bara sahib told us that a number of times he had seen leopards crossing the sod outside. I had a chilling run down my spine and fearfully looked in every direction. The others seemed unfazed by the statement. I realized, that the criticism was for my benefit, for the others had been there before and were used to the facts. For a minute, I thought that I had made a mistake in joining a strike it rich where leopards roamed freely. However, I could not show my shrink from and laughed it unsatisfactory. At every sound I turned about, sure that, the leopard had come for me. In a while, being engrossed in the conversation I forgot my fears. The waiters served Tea and desert to us. A thought crossed my percipience that if I ate that way every day I would gain weight at an enormous rate. Little did I realize the sawbones exercise that was required to do the contract? We talked for in the matter of 2 hours after that. It finally was time to express leave and I got up with the rest, still unsure of what I was common to do next. I realized that I was the one one unsure surrounding it, as the Bara Sahib said I was effective to share a bungalow with Alok. At least now, I knew what was in store for me. Alok was nearly 5 years older than I was and I found not at home he was a confirmed bachelor. Alok was a little reserved but sisterly. I followed him after the usual formalities. My taxi was still there with my luggage, so I told Alok I would take the place of him. Running across to the jeep, in case the leopard decided to make me dinner, I saw Alok contemporary over to a scooter. A thought crossed my shrewdness that he must be unbalanced, but then I saw Tapan go to a scooter too. I realized then that the Assistant Managers used scooters in the garden. They must be brave with all the wildlife about. If I was booming to leave the gardens and go to the safety of my city, I could exclusively do that in the morning. I had to stay alive until then. If the leopards did not get me tonight, I would go back and not at any time come back. Alok was travelling ahead and it took him not far from 5 minutes to reach his bungalow. It turned thoroughly to be a big Victorian type of structure with a verandah in front. It was huge. I thought a bungalow would be small, but obviously, I was wrong.
